Our Mission

Science Education & Teacher Training

Our mission: The Science United Project (SUP) aims to responsibly deliver science education to displaced students in all educational settings.

About Us and Our Kits:
The goal of the project has been to develop and provide science activities and teacher support materials to bring science to displaced children who have experienced interruptions to their education. The project began in 2017 with the initial development of activities that were successful within a non-formal learning context. The units developed across the curriculum include activities/kits that teach force and motion, magnetism and electricity, and biology. The kits have been designed to give children the opportunity to take their creations home and share it within their community. In addition to kits, professional development videos, activity plans, and materials were created to support teacher confidence and their ability to lead the science activities. Also, our curriculum has been accredited by the Greek Ministry of Education.
This year (2021-2022) we are very proud to have distributed 1602 science kits to 474 students and 31 teachers, and expecting approximately more than 100 student participants and 12teachers at the Science United Festival, it seems that this year is going to be Science United Project’s most impactful year yet. Since 2017, funding from the Blossom Hill foundation has supported the development and distribution of 19,000 kits.

“The students’ excitement about interactive learning is truly huge!!! Moreover, they are grasping quickly concepts such as magnetism.”

- Stella Mantzikou, science & mathematics teacher,  Solidarity Now’s school at the Kavala refugee accommodation site.

"My favorite success story was from a teacher in Athens, Greece who said that after the activities were completed, the children worked together to use their magnets to develop a device for cleaning up the trash around the camp. This demonstrates that the learning continues outside the classroom and they are also engaging in social entrepreneurship to make their own community better." - Dr. Erika Gillette, Founder & Director
